The Brazilian beauty scene is not as thriving downtown as it is uptown, so when spa owner Maria Fernanda Lacerda discovered a void of full-service salons amidst the well-groomed streets of Nolita, she got down to business. Born in 2003, Maria Bonita is one of the only full-service Brazilian salons to offer one-stop hair, nail, and waxing services, as well as facials and massages; it is also the only place in the city to use Bell Soft, a Brazilian line of hair and body products made of all-natural ingredients. The ground-floor hair and nail salon share quarters with a small waxing room, while quiet massage and facial stations are nestled on the basement level. "Apparently my hair has been talking and yet no one has been paying any attention… or else, no one has been able to properly translate what, exactly it was saying! Going in for my hair treatment, hot chocolate pedicure and hair cut at Maria Bonita Salon and Spa, I was open to a change with my hair but hesitant at the same time. After my lovely hair treatment and amazing pedicure with Rosalie (served with Delicious hot cocoa sprinkled with cinnamon- they don’t miss a detail here) I met Rogerio, who was going to cut my hair. After explaining my needs and wants for my hair (you know, no time, but need it to look good) I told him that I had gone short in the past and was open to it, but a little apprehensive. We agreed on a length, at about my chin and then he said “We agree to this, and the rest, your hair will tell me what to do.” I laughed, but when all was said and done, my hair not only looked different and amazing, but thick and chic and easy-to-do. While my hair might not have been, I was speechless! Loved it! "
